Star Trek: Every Q Episode Ranked Worst To Best

9. The Q And The Grey

By the time that this episode aired, Q had been well established as a trickster without any real sense of malevolence left in him. His appearances on Voyager were primarily aimed at upping that persona, none more so than this third season entry. This would serve as the second visit to the Q Continuum, portrayed as a Civil War era battlefield.

While the political backdrop of the episode contains the requisite amount of silliness that had come to be expected from an appearance by John de Lancie, the introduction of the female Q, played by Suzie Plakson, of K'Ehleyr fame, leads to one of the most stand out lines in Voyager's seven year run, where she compares Janeway to a certain four legged animal.

While the episode boasts strong guest actors and impressive visuals, it falls into a pit of overt silliness. Q's attempted courtship of Janeway varies somewhere between comedy and awkward. Regardless of the intentions, having Q appear as a man desperate to get Janeway into bed seems very out of character.

However the play between de Lancie and Kate Mulgrew allows for both characters to stand more or less equal to each other - Q is the obvious expert in the war, while Janeway has complete control when it comes to trying to educate Q on becoming a father. The episode was light but notable for introducing Q's son, who would of course return in our next entry.
