It's here, the moment we've all been waiting for since we saw it in the Star Trek: Lower Decks trailer that was released earlier this summer: The blast shield song. You know, that moment that had you tweeting "This is not Star Trek", but also deep down knowing that yeah, this is Star Trek, baby.

Blast shield aside, "Envoys" sees Mariner and Boimler lose drunken Klingon ambassador K'orin on Tulgana IV, a plant chalk full of easter eggs and references to Trek's past. And on the Cerritos, Rutherford tries out jobs in each division in Starfleet, giving us a taste of command, operations, and sciences aboard the fleet's most middling starship.

The cuts in this episode are deep, so grab your mek'leth or your d'k tahg and let's dissect "Envoys".

29. Typical Transdimensional Energy Creature

"Envoys" begins a lot like Star Trek: The Next Generation's season two opener "The Child", with a glowing energy ball alien penetrating the hull of the ship and flying around the corridors.

However, this transdimensional energy creature has the misfortune of encountering Tendi and Mariner, who immediately tries to stuff it in a canister unless it grants her wishes.

As mentioned, this energy creature resembles the Ian Andrew Troi-alien from "The Child" and the space borne entity that took on the identify of Clara Sutter's imaginary friend Isabela in "Imaginary Friend".
