Star Wars: Clone Wars Season 7 Episode 10 - 5 Ups & 2 Downs From "Phantom Apprentice"

7. Down - Parallel Shots

Star Wars Clone Wars
Lucasfilm

Since the beginning, Clone Wars has paid homage to several key moments from the live action theatrical Star Wars films. However, The Phantom Apprentice may have taken it a little too far, since a few shots feel like they were plucked straight from the movies.

When Ashoka and Maul are talking in his wrecked throne room, he offers her hand, as a massive battle is happening. This exact same thing happens in Star Wars: Episode VII - The Last Jedi: A villainous man offers a heroic woman her hand in a throne room full of carnage while the bigger battle rages on. Even the way both Maul and Kylo Ren each holds out his hand feels eerily similar.

The same thing happens at the episode's climax, when Ashoka and Maul are fighting on an unstable structure. Ashoka lost her lightsaber, and Maul stands over her, offering her one last chance to join him. This exact same thing happens in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back in a scene so iconic I don't feel the need to describe it here.

While referring to the movies is always nice, these shot for shot remakes felt a little too on the nose and unnatural.
