2. The Call To Arms

Star Wars Rebels was always supposed to be about the formation of the Rebel Alliance and fans were initially outraged that such a significant moment in the history of Star Wars was rooted with a character who had gained the infamous nickname of “Space Aladdin.”

But three seasons on, Rebels has proven itself to be an integral part of the Star Wars universe and has been building towards the moment it promised from the very beginning. In Season One, the Ghost crew were merely looking for ways to get under the Empire’s skin. In Season Two they became part of Sato’s Phoenix Squadron. And in Season Three, we see those cells coming together. We’ve now seen General Dodonna, Mon Mothma, Bail Organa and Saw Gerrara all fighting for the same cause, but very much as separate units.

In Secret Cargo, we get one of the most important, defining moments of Star Wars history. Mon Mothma’s speech, though short and sweet was rousing enough to have the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, as shots cut across the galaxy of people listening to her call to arms to unite and officially stand against the Empire. It could have been given a lot more screen-time to accommodate such an important moment, but the intended effect was achieved.

Seeing all those ships come out of hyperspace was just the cherry on top of the cake. You see Corellian Blockade Runners, the Hammerhead Corvettes, Nebulon Frigates and even a Mon Calamari cruiser hiding amongst them. Rebels’ has slowly been crawling towards the events of A New Hope, and now Rogue One, and in this moment, it finally delivers a milestone that’s hard to forget.
