Star Wars Rebels Season 3: 20 Easter Eggs & References You Need To See

Iron Squadron features a YT-2400 Freighter, which was originally developed as a background ship for the special edition of A New Hope. But most fans will recognise it be the same ship as Dash Rendar's, the Outrider.

Dash Rendar was a fan-favourite character from Shadows of the Empire, who piloted a YT-2400 Freighter known as the Outrider. Like Han Solo, he was a smuggler, originally from the planet Corellia (also like Han) and had a side-kick repair droid called LE-BO2D9, aka. "Leebo" (a bit like Chewbacca).

When the YT-2400 Freighter featured in the Season Three trailer for Rebels, many were expecting to see Dash Rendar himself make his way back into the canon universe and while he failed to appear this season, there's no indication that the Rebels team would want to bring him in.

Rogue One co-writer Gary Whitta who lends his pen to a few episodes of Rebels, said in a recent interview with ScreenRant that "there are certain people at Lucasfilm that would hang you from a tree for..." wanting to bring Rendar to Rebels. He explained that they is a love-hate relationship between Lucasfilm and the character, but didn't rule out the possibility.

He added that "Lucasfilm are very aware of not doing stuff necessarily just for fan service", but "because it's something the show needs or can benefit from."

So who knows. Maybe Rendar could eventually find his way onto Rebels. Keep your fingers crossed.
