Star Wars: The Complete History Of The Darksaber

It was a big surprise when Moff Gideon cut himself out of his crashed TIE Fighter using none other than the Darksaber itself, last known to be in the possession of Bo-Katan.

Moff Gideon, now leading the remnants of the Empire in the Outer-Rim, once participated in what became now as the Great Purge of Mandalore. He cites during a confrontation with Din Djarin, the Night of a Thousand Tears when the Empire using gunships outfitted with heavy repeating blasters, attacked fields occupied by Mandalorian recruits. The Great Purge was a devastating event for the Mandalorian people, forcing them to retreat underground in the same vein as Din Djarin’s clan does on Nevarro.

Though at the time of writing, the exact details of the events are not confirmed, we know that at some point during the Great Purge, Moff Gideon faced off against Bo-Katan in which he left with the Darksaber. In The Mandalorian, Bo-Katan (played by Katee Sackoff) continues to search for the Darksaber, interrogating an Imperial Officer on where Moff Gideon is hiding with it. She tells Din Djarin that she intends to reclaim it and take it back to Mandalore to reunite their people once more.

Being a man of intellect, he must know of its symbolism and it could be possible that Mandalore is subdued under his rule because of it. Could Gideon be Mandalorian himself? Only time will tell.
