5. Down - The Flashback Scene

This was such a brief moment that it seems slightly trivial to include it, but it stuck with me throughout as something that just felt a little out-of-place and unnecessary. Kara's helping the DEO investigate a scene where an alien has been involved, and has a flashback to a conversation with her mother, after which she identifies what kind of alien it is. It's the only scene of its kind we get in the episode. Had the scene been longer, or recurred throughout the episode to tell more of a narrative (in the vein that the best flashbacks on Arrow do), then it might've worked better. Instead it's just a fleeting moment, one not really needed that serves as a distraction (in the vein of the worst flashbacks on Arrow).
