6. Up - Aunt Astra

After last week's rather underwhelming bad guy, it seemed the show was very much heading down the typical villain-of-the-week route. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with that, of course, if you do it right and make the villains interesting and a genuine threat. While that will still probably be that path the follow in the next few weeks, this episode took a slightly surprising turn by fully introducing Astra, Kara's aunt and the character setup as the big bad for the foreseeable future. Not only did she get plenty of screentime, but her and her niece actually faced off, shooting eye beams at each other and taking the meaning of family feud to a whole other level. It was a bold move to do this fight so early, but it certainly pays off here, and raises excitement for bigger clashes between the pair later on in the season.
