3. The Super Suit Is Short-Lived

After the earth's atmosphere was laced with Kryptonite, Kara spent all of last week's episode unconscious and in a critical condition. Out of options to save her, the D.E.O. turned to Lena Luthor - who showed up with an armoured suit that would protect the Girl of Steel from the infected environment, keeping her alive until they could all figure out a way to disperse the Kryptonite.

As Melissa Benoist hadn't yet completed her run on Broadway when the season commenced filming, the writers concocted this storyline in a clever attempt to temporarily write her out of the show while keeping Supergirl on it. As we couldn't see Kara's face in the suit (with the exception of the odd Iron Man-like face-shot), it was surprisingly effective. However, by the episode's conclusion, the atmosphere was safe and Kara could breathe again.

The writers undoubtedly wrote around Benoist's temporary absence very well, never going too long without a close-up or voiceover from Kara, but it's good to know that her limited appearances are over and that she will once again be back on our screens full-time.
