Supernatural: 10 Best Characters Who Appeared After Season One

2. Crowley

Supernatural Rowena
The CW

He's the crossroads demon we can't help but love and our one true King of Hell: Crowley. By far, one of the show's biggest breakout characters, Crowley made his first appearance in Season Five where he helped the Winchesters in their fight against Lucifer and the impending Apocalypse. Originally a human from 17th and 18th century Scotland, he became a crossroads demon after death and eventually became the right-hand man to Lilith, the ruler of Hell. However, after her death and the defeat of Lucifer (the first time), Crowley took the opportunity to take Hell's throne for himself.

From then, he alternated between being an ally and enemy to the Winchesters, depending on his agenda. Over time though, he did seem to develop genuine affection for the boys, especially Dean, much to the chagrin of his subordinates in Hell. No matter where his allegiances were though, he was always a charming and commanding presence whenever he was on screen, and it didn't take long for him to become one of the show's most popular characters.

This is why so many fans were distraught when he was killed off for good at the end of Season Twelve, even though he did go out helping the boys fight Lucifer (again!). His impact on the show and the fandom cannot be understated and he will always be remembered as one of the most beloved and iconic characters in the program's history. Suave and sinister in equal measure - there'll never be another like him.
