Supernatural: 10 Biggest Fan-Service Moments
3. Castiel's Final Scene
From his introduction in Season Four, Castiel quickly became a fan-favourite, going on to become the show's third main character. From there, it didn't take long for some of the SPN Family to start "shipping" Cass and Dean together - i.e., those fans believed that Cass and Dean's relationship was more than platonic.
Now, being a cosmic being and self-described "multi-dimensional waveform of celestial intent", Cass was usually presented as fairly asexual. But it can't be denied that his many years spent with the Winchesters caused him to develop attributes beyond the capabilities of most angels. Furthermore, it was clear that he had developed a strong bond with Dean.
So, when it came time for Cass to make his tragic exit in the show's third-last episode, viewers were treated to an emotional monologue, in which he declared his love to Dean. Now, the brilliance of this scene is that it really can be interpreted in multiple ways.
If you're a passenger on the good ship Destiel, then you can jump for joy as your "ship" is validated. However, if that's not your cup of tea and you think that Cass and Dean's bond is purely platonic, then this speech can be read that way too. There's nothing to say that Cass' declaration isn't platonic, especially given how differently angels experience and perceive notions such as love. Either way, it's a bold and fulfilling final moment for a beloved character, which brings closure to one of the most important relationships of the show.
