Supernatural: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best

2. Season Five

Supernatural finale
The CW

Season five is absolutely phenomenal, and is often cited by fans as the best season of the bunch. For this list, however, it just misses out on the top spot.

By now, the show knew exactly what it wanted to be and where it wanted to go. The mythology and world-building had been expanded like never before, and it was here that the show cemented itself as a force to be reckoned with. There was a belief, behind the scenes, that this would be the show's last chapter, so the ending - whilst undeniably awesome and hopeful - was much safer than the other seasons, with no major cliffhanger or shock revelation.

Every episode of the season is, however, a bona fide classic. The monster-of-the-week episodes are stronger than ever, and Lucifer makes for a darkly funny and entertaining villain. Also, we finally get to learn about Sam and Dean's destiny, and it's just as rewarding and sinister as you can imagine.

Season five is dark, violent, mysterious and dramatic, and if it wasn't for one other season, it would certainly be at the top of the pile.
