Supernatural: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best

3. Season Eight

Supernatural finale
The CW

Under the watchful eye of new showrunner Jeremy Carver, Supernatural's eighth season improved on its predecessor beautifully, creating a fast-paced, action-packed and plot-twisting story that really lived up to the high standard the show was by now known for.

Having returned from Purgatory with the soul of a vampire called Benny, Dean once more teams up with Sam in a fight against new antagonist Crowley. The season features a deeper look into the family history of the Winchesters, and features another layer of complexity in the Sam/Dean relationship.

All of the season's greatness is capped off by the show's best finale, in which all the Angels are banished from Heaven and Castiel is stripped of his Grace. It's a haunting scene, seeing the Angels fall, and remains one of the show's most unforgettable sequences. Setting up season nine nicely (though season nine didn't quite live up to the excitement), season eight was a blast through and through, featuring some of the show's best storytelling.
