The 10 Best Acted Scenes Of Game Of Thrones Season 8
2. Daenerys In The Throne Room
Emilia Clarke takes us on a tour of Daenerys’ entire psyche in this three minute dialogue sequence with Jon in the most sublime way imaginable.
She starts girlish and hopeful, as if we were watching a season 1 Daenerys relaying her childhood to Jon. She attempts to delude herself into believing her humanity is still in tact, and that Jon can love her for the earlier version of herself.
When Jon reminds her of her actions, we see the dark side of Dany take over again, as she harshly stares him down and attempts to explain her bloodthirsty actions, with an unyielding face much like the one we saw when faced with Missandei’s death.
And then Clarke sends shivers down your spine by breaking into an eerie smile again, clinging onto Jon as she attempts to show him she is still a worthy and just queen capable of kindness. She encapsulates delusion of grandeur and the true swing of madness the character has experienced, and as she dies in the embrace with true shock, we are left with the impression that Dany’s psyche was too far gone to ever see fault in her actions.
She died feeling truly betrayed by her lover and justified in her actions, fooled into believing she was still the youthful kind queen she always set out to be.
