The Flash: 8 Craziest (And Most Believable) Reverse-Flash Theories

5. He's Eobard Thawne

Eobard Thawne (a.k.a. Professor Zoom) hails from the 25th Century, and grew up obsessed with The Flash. After undergoing surgery to look like him, he even manages to replicate the accident which gave Barry Allen his powers. However, once he travelled back in time and learned that he was destined to become the Reverse-Flash, he went insane (the dangers of time travel, eh?) and did indeed end up becoming one of The Flash's rogues. Things get complicated later on, with it revealed that Thawne is responsible for Barry going missing during Final Crisis. Do you see the connection with the TV show? That's what Wells has been seen looking at on that newspaper, and it could just be that he wants to ensure that his plan to leave The Flash lost in the Speed Force will always succeed. There's a fair bit of evidence to suggest that Wells could be Thawne then, but the show has a lot to explain and address for it all to add up. The fact that Reverse-Flash spared Eddie Thawne's life makes a lot more sense now if the two are related, and his decision to help the younger Barry could be explained simply as an insane man wanting to spend time with a hero he once idolised. There is, however, an even more likely option...
