The Flash Season 5: 3 Ups & 2 Downs From 'News Flash'
2. Barry's Defence Of Iris
When Nora turned up in the present, she was overjoyed to be interacting with her father, Barry Allen a.k.a. The Flash. Behaving like a total fangirl, she was at her father's side everywhere he went and hung on his every word, just honoured to be in his company. This was all understandable, given that she revealed that he never returns from the future Crisis, however it quickly made Iris feel excluded from her own family.
When Nora unloaded on Iris for defending her future decision (of placing the power-dampening chip inside her daughter), Barry finally stepped in and defended his wife. Until that point, he had been remaining on the sidelines in an attempt to keep the peace and allow his daughter and wife to bond naturally. However, his decision to speak up couldn't have come at a better time as it was something that Nora needed to hear.
Iris West-Allen has always been The Flash's lightning rod and, quite frankly, the show would not work without her - something we saw all too well when she saved Barry from Nora in the final showdown of the episode. It was nice to see the writers reminding us of this as this was an incredibly powerful scene that only highlighted just how important she is. Hopefully Nora will come to realise that soon.
Also, Candice Patton, Jessica Parker Kennedy and Grant Gustin all did a phenomenal job here.
