The Flash Season 6 Review: 5 Ups & 3 Downs From 'A Flash Of The Lightning'

3. Introducing Joan Garrick

The Flash Season 6
The CW

When Jay Garrick was first introduced, many of us thought that Joan was an inevitability. But she wasn't, because as far as we knew, Jay wasn't married. Well, that year away from Earth-1 certainly changed things, as the veteran speedster introduced Barry to his wife: Dr. Joan Williams.

Thus, in a way, Joan was an inevitability after all. What we didn't expect, however, was for her to be portrayed by Michelle Harrison - which is just too poetic that it's hard to figure out why nobody thought of it sooner. After all, if Jay is the doppelganger of Barry's father Henry, it's only fitting that Joan is the doppelganger of his mother Nora.

A touching family reunion of sorts, it was nothing short of wonderful to see Grant Gustin paired up with his on-screen parents one more time and, in a way, it reignited that familial feel that these three were familiar for giving us throughout the first season.
