The Handmaid's Tale Season 2: 10 Big Questions After 'Other Women'
1. Is June Playing Offred To Throw Her Superiors Off The Scent?
After Aunt Lydia informed June that she was responsible for Omar's death, the handmaid seemingly accepted her fate and agreed to leave June in the past and become Offred again.
The following day, she put on the red dress without complaint and headed out to do her mundane handmaid activities. She spoke only when spoken to, and she even refused to speak to Nick other than to say formalities like "We've been sent good weather."
At this stage, it's hard to tell if June is simply playing the part of Offred to make her superiors think that she won't escape again, or if she cannot take anymore hurt and has simply accepted that this is who she is now. If it's the former, then she's doing one hell of a job. But considering the psychological torture June endured during this episode, it's more likely the latter.
