The Handmaid's Tale Season 2: 8 Ups And 2 Downs From 'First Blood'
5. The Dynamic Between Serena And June
The ever-changing dynamic between Serena and June continued to evolve in First Blood. The mistress of the Waterford household made an effort to be kind to her handmaid following her hospitalisation. She realised that June needs to be supported emotionally, as well as physically, if this baby stands any chance of surviving.
Serena's kindness gave June hope, which is perhaps the most tragic thing about this show. Hope is a killer. Trying to see the best in her, June asked Serena if she could see her daughter, Hannah. And that's all it took to make Serena return to her stone cold self.
But the best scene between the two came much later, when Serena tried to make an example of June in front of Eden. As always Elisabeth Moss and Yvonne Strahovski are wonderful together. This isn't the first time the two characters have attempted friendship, and it probably won't be the last either.
