The Last Of Us Season 2: Episode 3 (The Path) 4 Ups & 4 Downs

3. Up - The Emotional Fallout

It's not very often the main character gets killed in a TV show outside of a big season finale. The likes of Walter White and Jax Teller died, but neither Breaking Bad nor Sons of Anarchy went on without them. The Last of Us most certainly is moving forward without Joel.

Though there arguably wasn't time for it in a season just seven episodes long, much of 'The Path' was spent dealing with the emotional fallout of what happened. It was incredibly heavy stuff, but it needed to be after such a game-changing moment.

This came in so many ways, with Ellie visiting Joel's house and taking it in, her conversation with Tommy about what his brother would or wouldn't have done, and the entire town airing out their feelings toward how they should proceed. Then, there is the conversation Ellie had with Gail.

She was clearly irritated by having to have the conversation at all, and was just trying to say all the right things to get it over with as quickly as possible, but there was some real wisdom in what she said. "Your final moment with someone doesn't define your entire time with them". Hell, if only one thing is taken from the entire season, something as profound as this wouldn't be bad.
