The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power - 11 Things We Expect To See

4. The Creation Of Ringwraiths

Lord Of The Rings Nazgul
New Line Cinema

The Ringwraiths, or Nazgûl, the terrifying spectres of death that followed the Hobbits in the films, were once Kings of Men whose souls were corrupted by Sauron. Whether the actual Kings behind the Nazgûl will appear in the series is still unknown, with a few of them having Numenorian origins (like many major characters in the series, including Aragorn's ancestors Elendil and Isildur).

Only the Lord of the Nazgûl, the Witch-King of Angmar, and his second, Khamûl the Easterling, have names, so there's a lot of freedom for the writers to interpret other members's histories. Multiple members of the nine riders may even be seen in the lead-up to the fall of Numenor, having succumbed to Sauron's lies, the same act which led to the nation's destruction.

It also gives the series a chance to show Sauron's ability to trick and manipulate people - specifically those in the race of Men, since the Elves received rings that were unaffected by the One Ring (since their rings were forged in secret) and the Dwarves were too hardy to be controlled (though they were in some ways corrupted).
