Episode: Season 12, Tennis the Menace Season 12's "Tennis the Menace" sees the Simpson family get a tennis court, and wow does it fall flat. Season 12 was the harbinger for the show's troubled teen years, and this was a particular low point. The entire episode can be summed up in a single word: "forgettable." Or perhaps we could just go with "meh." The Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, were of course at the top of the tennis world at the time, so including them fit, but it was almost as if the production staff said "well, we've done baseball to death, and our fair share of football, we even did a hockey episode, so what sport is next?" The better answer would have been basketball, but Yao Ming and LeBron James didn't make it onto the show for a couple more seasons (and were really afterthoughts). In any case, the whole thing seemed unnecessary.
