The Simpsons: 11 Most Paused Moments
6. Another Simpsons Prediction?
The Simpsons has gained a thorough reputation for predicting current events, so much so that people actively look through episodes to see if the cartoon has already guessed the current news stories of today. So far, they’ve correctly predicted Trump as president, rigged voting and modern technology.
Fans also believe the writers of the show may have even predicted 9/11, although it is fairly brief. In the episode “The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson” which aired almost 4 years prior to the September 11 attacks, the family are trying to convince Homer to go to New York, despite his previous experiences in the city. Lisa then holds up a magazine, suggesting they travel for cheap by taking the bus company’s super sitters fair for just nine dollars. But here's the striking part.
The magazine cover has a large ‘$9’ as the focus with a silhouette of New York City as the backdrop and two tall buildings can be seen in the background to resemble the number 11 – those buildings of course make up the World Trade Centre. As a whole, it’s practically a symbol for 9/11.
Fans are still perplexed by the image to this very day. Most would think it’s just a coincidence but others claim it’s too accurate to be animated by accident. Coincidence or not, it’s still an addition to the Simpsons never-ending list of predictions. And it's undeniably eerie to glimpse at from a current perspective.
