Probably the most controversial Simpsons episode in terms of reactions, Blame It on Lisa incurred so much Brazilian wrath that the countrys tourist board threated to sue Fox for its less than positive portrayal Rio de Janeiro. Clearly, the Simpsons makers didnt learn their lesson with Bart vs. Australia, and in Blame It On Lisa they depicted Rio as a rat-infested, crime-ridden hellhole, resulting in then Brazilian president Fernando Henrique Cardoso lambasting the episode as "a distorted vision of Brazilian reality." The planned lawsuit never saw the light of day though and Brazilians had to settle with executive producer James L. Brooks public apology and offering President Cardoso the opportunity to fight Homer Simpson on the Fox produced Celebrity Boxing show a shameless plug if we ever saw one.
