5. Twin Peaks

(Part One) (Season 6, Episode 25) A show as weird and surreal as Twin Peaks was always ripe for The Simpsons to ridicule, which is exactly what they did in this great moment from Who Shot Mr Burns?. While trying to solve the case, Chief Wiggum falls asleep and finds himself in a red-curtained room where Lisa gives him a coded clue. The scene is lifted straight out of Twin Peaks, in which the main character Agent Cooper visits the room in his dreams... and is met by a dancing dwarf. There are some nice touches that give the scene the proper off-kilter feel of that show; for instance, the weird way Lisa walks and the moving shadow behind Wiggum are borrowed from Twin Peaks too. Yeardley Smith also recorded her lines backward which were then reversed, just as was done on the show. The rest of the episode meanwhile was a parody of a different TV show...
