The Simpsons: 8 Reasons Why Season 8 Was The Show's Best
7. Hilarious One Liners
This entry is only so low not because the of the gags themselves, but because you could throw a dart at all the scripts from Seasons 3-9 and land on hilarity. Even the first two seasons were good for a chuckle, and it wasn’t until after the movie that any real decline of note began.
While it’s a given that the golden era seasons had amazing one liners throughout, Season 8 has some of the best. Just to scattergun through the exchanges this season gave us, we get Ned’s breakdown as his rebuilt house collapses, Johnny Cash as the space coyote, and Homer and Burns trapped under the avalanche. Ned will never get a better line than ‘Aw hell diddly ding dong crap!’
It wasn’t just the A-plots that were crammed with jokes either; B-plots and random asides did their part too. Bart calling Homer ‘fish bulb’ comes to mind, as does Moe struggling to carry the killer whale back to Sea World.
Season 8 is certainly not the only Simpsons season with wonderful comedy. But it does prove that even with everything else it brings to the party, the jokes aren’t being left behind.
