The Simpsons: Every Main Character Ranked Worst To Best
25. Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Now, this was inevitable. The Simpsons have never been a stranger to controversy, but Apu is undoubtedly one of the biggest taboos they have ever broken. Right now, his position in the show has declined drastically, and much of that is thanks to the casting of Hank Azaria. But, even without that controversy, Apu would still rank low here.
Apu steps a few places up because he is a wholesome character with a great connection to the central family. You get to see him grow, make a family of his own and pour his heart and soul into work, which does make him likeable. However, there are some issues that you cannot ignore.
Simply put, Apu is an awful stereotype. While The Simpsons works on stereotype, it's often at its best when it's joking about institutions or career choices, so this overly offensive caricature of the Indian community has always felt cheap and unnecessary.
