The Simpsons: Ranking Every Alternate Future Episode From Worst To Best
1. Lisa's Wedding
It's becoming less and less prevalent these days, but sometimes the original really is the best.
In fact, the very first future-themed episode of The Simpsons, Lisa's Wedding, is not only the best of its subset, but is so unbelievably clever, funny, and poignant, that it's one of the best Simpsons episodes period.
Lisa's Wedding drives home the point that, for all of her family's faults, Lisa still deeply cares about them and would jump to their defense in a heartbeat if need be. This is an episode that also tells us that sometimes things don't work out the way you plan them, but that's okay as long as you learn from the experience.
The Simpsons clan themselves are as charming as ever in this episode and the writers did a fantastic job at cleverly portraying each of them a decade and a half down the road. The rest of Springfield is handled in a similarly hilarious way, not to mention the fact Lisa's fiancé Hugh Parkfield is one of the series' very best one-time characters.
Finally, despite the fact that this episode takes place in 2010, which is practically a distant memory for us in 2018, it actually holds up incredibly well. Not only is the story utterly fantastic, but going back to see what writers in 1995 envisioned for 2010 armed with hindsight only adds to the episode's charm and rewatchability.
Due to its impeccable quality and the fact that it has withstood the test of time in more ways than one, there's just no beating Lisa's Wedding.
