The Sopranos: 10 Most Disturbing Episodes

5. Walk Like A Man

Few characters have a more precipitous, but predictable, decline than Christopher Moltisanti. Tony’s nephew is initially a capable operator and is clearly being groomed for big things in the Mafia, but poor decisions and personal demons render him nothing short of a liability.

Namely, his struggles with addiction. Christopher kicks his heroin habit repeatedly over the series, but the temptations are always there. In “Walk Like A Man” we see just how hard it is for him - any kind of personal struggle is seen as a sign of weakness in this lifestyle, and avoiding social situations at which the booze flows can quickly see you frozen out.

True to character, Christopher takes the easy route. He drinks with the boys, swiftly making an embarrassment of himself. Frustrated, he turns to his pal in AA to talk him around, but when J.T refuses to help, Chris murders him.

This is rock bottom for one of The Sopranos’ most important and deep characters; Christopher will be mercy killed by Tony the following episode, his uncle seeing his death as nothing short of a bonus. It’s the culmination of a beautifully studied, tragic arc.
