The Sopranos: Ranking Every Main Character Worst To Best

4. Christopher Moltisanti

The Sopranos Junior
HBO

Few characters in The Sopranos, and by extension TV drama at large, can boast as rich and dramatic an arc as that of Christopher Moltisanti. One of the most important characters on the show, his journey is a hubristic tragedy, as he evolves from a promising young worker to a burnout and finally a burden.

Michael Imperoili is given the scope to put on one of the showier performances, with Christopher almost a romantic lead at first, the dark, brooding princeling who wants to prove himself to father figure Tony.

And then it all goes wrong. Christopher gives himself over to mob life and his addictions, in the process giving up all his humanity - he chooses his mafia career over Adriana, and eventually gives up all chance of living a normal, put together life.

The tragedy of Christopher’s demise is that it’s so small time. He was once the third or fourth lead of the show; he’s mercy killed by Tony after turning to drugs one time too many. It’s a beautifully executed slow burn of a decline.
