The Sopranos: Ranking Every Main Character Worst To Best
5. Adriana La Cerva
The closest thing The Sopranos comes to having a truly innocent character, Adriana La Cerva endures one of the most tragic arcs in the whole series, living in fear and misery for the best part of three seasons. With her iconic wardrobe, endless reservoir of sass, and heart stoppingly tense storylines, she’s one of the show’s finest creations.
Drea de Matteo first appeared in a bit part as a hostess, but her screen presence was such that David Chase expanded her role into Christopher’s girlfriend and eventual fiancee. Unlike some of the other mob wives, Adriana doesn’t shy away from the life she’s marrying into, but neither does she luxuriate in it. She doesn’t love Christopher for his money or power - she just loves him, making her downfall all the more tragic.
When Adriana is eventually outed as an FBI informant and whacked, fans prayed for a twist in the tale, for the reveal that she had been spared, but it wasn’t to be. Adriana has her less than noble qualities, but she stands as the moral centre of this show, relatively speaking at least.
