The farmhouse is lost in a frightening and fire-filled evening invasion by walkers. In the aftermath, it’s no surprise the remaining survivors would be feeling down and out.

Rick, sensing a shift in the confidence level of his decision making, lays it all out with a monologue that has since been dubbed the birth of the Ricktatorship:

“Maybe you people are better off without me. Go ahead. I say there's a place for us, but maybe... maybe it's just another pipe dream. Maybe... maybe I'm fooling myself again. Why don't you... Why don't you go and find out yourself? Send me a postcard. Go on, there's the door. You can do better? Let's see how far you get. But get one thing straight... you're staying. This isn't a democracy anymore."

The Ricktatorship monologue checks all the boxes and was an early season indicator of just how badass Rick Grimes would become.
