Mid-season 5: Wimpy kid, likes pudding. Mid-season 6: 'Tough as nails' kid, likes pointing a gun at a moron's face. Okay, so the pudding was slightly earlier than Season 4, and perhaps the worst of Carl's immaturity, but still, the difference between Season 5 and 6 Carl is amazing. He was just coming into the group as a developing young man in 5 but now he's a figure that people genuinely look up to. Father Gabriel, a full-grown adult, asked the teenager to train him up with machetes and guns. That's the level of respect Carl is beginning to command. Watching Carl vs. Ron is like watching a man vs. a child, despite being similar ages. Ron is a damn fool, and represents the millions of moody teenagers who're desperately grasping at the last shreds of the old world, whereas Carl is a boy who's learned lessons the hard way and grown into a fully functioning member of the new world.
