The Walking Dead: 10 Most Underrated Episodes

6. Internment (Season 4, Episode 5)

The Walking Dead
AMC

Hershel Greene (Scott Wilson) had been a hero since his very first day on the show, when he saved Carl from a gunshot wound and worked to keep Rick, Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) and Shane (Jon Bernthal) calm in the face of overwhelming odds.

Always a voice of wisdom and reason, he gets the opportunity to take centre stage in the season four episode Internment. With the flu virus raging throughout the prison, Hershel elects to go into the sick ward in hopes of keeping as many people alive as possible, no matter the consequences that may come.

As he works to save Glenn and Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), he also attempts to keep the kids sheltered from the horrors taking place around them.

It's a mostly bleak and harsh episode, in which things go south quite quick, but thanks to Hershel's unwavering perseverance and a brilliant performance from Wilson, Internment not just as a great character study for the wise old man, but a in-depth look at just how brutal and unforgiving the world has become.
