If you were to find a small abandoned town, you would need to consider staying there. Even a bigger town. Although, a smaller one means you can control everything a little easier and protect yourself against other survivors and Walkers far easier. You would also have a shed-load of supplies kicking about. You would have some nice shelter too and it would give you an opportunity to rebuild some civilization.
