The Walking Dead: Every Main Character Ranked Worst To Best

2. Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln)

Walking Dead
Gene Page/AMC

Rick Grimes is a wonderful creation.

He’s the leader, the stricken family man forced to fight for his family’s survival, the symbol representing just how confusing and difficult the world has become.

There’s no denying he’s made some poor decisions, but isn’t that the point? He’s only a man, thrust into an extraordinary situation and forced to give up on every aspect of his old life in order to survive.

He killed his best friend, lost his wife, lost his son, saw the demise of numerous friends and didn’t give up on the prospect of a peaceful future along the way.

It speaks volumes about Andrew Lincoln’s performance that Rick was as successful a character as he ended up being. His development from moral cop to community leader marks the best character arc on the show, and though he’s gone (at least for now), he remains the face of the franchise and the greatest character fans have seen.

Well, almost…
