The Walking Dead: Every Season 5 Episode Ranked Worst To Best

5. No Sanctuary

The Walking Dead Conquer
AMC

The season premiere is almost entirely action. Set directly after season four's stomach-churning cliffhanger, No Sanctuary finds Rick and the group kidnapped by the Terminus cannibals and able to escape thanks to the work of a sniper-wielding Carol.

By placing the Survivors in their most vulnerable and horrific position yet, the premiere expertly sets the tone for what's to come, with its harsh violence, sadistic villains, and hopeless twists all working together to create a sense of dread from which there's no escape.

It's not all grim, though, with the episode coming to a conclusion with a beautiful reunion between Rick, Carl and Judith, Sasha and Tyreese, and Daryl and Carol.

With the group back together - admittedly in poor condition - No Sanctuary is perhaps the best season opener of the show, and comes to an end with the assurance that things are just getting started.
