3. The Damned
Two episodes in, and season eight already surpassed the previous season's quality. Following on from a bloody premiere, The Damned balances its stacked ensemble beautifully as the communities continue to hunt down Negan's fighters.
There's a great sequence in which Morgan escapes death and goes full Terminator through a Savior compound, and another with Rick and Daryl teaming up to look for missing guns. But the best part of the episode is surely Rick's clash with a Savior, which ends in heartbreak when Rick realises he's just made a baby an orphan.
A perfect summary of just how far many of our fan favourite characters have fallen, The Damned is action-packed but maintains a moving undertone which adds frank complexity to its characters, especially an increasingly soulless Rick. If only the rest of the season had maintained this level of quality.
