The Walking Dead Season 11 Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs From "Hunted"

The Walking Dead's latest episode starts strong but soon falls apart.

It's been a long week waiting to see how our intrepid heroes could possibly deal with the Reaper cliffhanger the season premiere left us with, and whilst the episode has spots of greatness, Hunted is nonetheless a disappointingly empty episode which manages to waste the potential of several key story arcs.

The title refers to the different predicaments of the different groups: On the one hand, you have Maggie, Negan, Daryl and their scavenger group scattered and hunted by the villainous Reapers; on the other, a group of Alexandrians lead by Carol and Rosita spend the hour chasing horses who've escaped their ailing community.

Though aptly named and doing a good job of acting on the previous episode's cliffhanger whilst hammering home just how desperate the survivors have become following the Whisperer War, Hunted isn't quite able to overcome its most inarguable shortcomings.

It's far from terrible, but remains a massive step-down from the premiere that highlights some of the show's biggest late-run flaws. So with that in mind - and a final warning about spoilers - here are 4 Ups and 6 Downs from The Walking Dead's latest episode, starting with the Downs...

10. No Commonwealth

Perhaps the most hyped development taking place in The Walking Dead's final season is the long-awaited introduction of the Commonwealth, a large community which appears near the end of the comics and gives the series its final arc.

In the two-part season premiere, the Commonwealth took centre stage, with Eugene, Ezekiel, Yumiko and Princess banding together to get through the mysterious community's vigorous processing procedures so could make contact with a possible future.

This arc has so far has been incredibly compelling and well written, and ended on a major cliffhanger when they passed the entry exam and Eugene finally met his love interest Stephanie (strangely played a different actress than originally credited, alluding to some horribly dramatic deception, perhaps?)

Unfortunately, Hunted features no Commonwealth development, and worse still the promos for episode four seem to promise an entirely Daryl-centric instalment, meaning we're going to have to wait at least two weeks before seeing the Commonwealth in all its glory.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Be excellent to each other.
