The Walking Dead Season 11 Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs From "Hunted"
9. The Terrible Pacing
The main issue with Hunted is how unsure of its story, tone and characters it seems to be. Whilst it kicks off in spectacular fashion, the dark opener is then side-lined for a surprisingly light and breezy B-plot about chasing horses, and a smaller arc focussed on the community's surviving kids as they adapt to their parents' absence.
But not just that tone suffers, but the way the episode moves between these developments. Just as things start to take the form of an interesting Negan/Maggie team-up, they switch without warning to the kids playing cards, and Carol struggling to reconcile her past.
It's hard to get invested in what's playing out, simply because the episode doesn't give us any time to feel completely hooked by any of the storylines. A tighter focus on one of the groups would have helped the episode massively, and some more controlled editing would have gone a long way, too.
