The Walking Dead Season 11 Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs From "Hunted"

6. The Underwhelming Reapers Pay-Off

The Walking Dead Season 11
AMC

Sigh. By far the biggest let-down of Hunted is its treatment of the antagonistic Reapers, a group of mask-wearing, brutally vicious killing machines who allow the episode to start on a high, offer audiences some chilling imagery, but quickly become easily disposable and rather forgettable.

The episode's main focus is on Maggie, Negan and an injured Alden as they flee from their new foes, occasionally coming into contact with dying friends and a lone Reaper or two.

And whilst the Reapers are still awesome in both appearance and mystery, their threat level feels worryingly low by the episode's end. Maggie kills one with a bottle despite being easily overpowered, and when Gabriel encounters one in the woods, he's just a scared non-threat we've seen a dozen times before.

The Reapers are set to play an even bigger role in the next episode, but even so they've already lost their edge, and it'll be hard to get it back after their performance here.
