The Walking Dead Season 7: 10 Fatal Mistakes It Must Avoid

8. Dropping Characters Must Be Used Carefully

Part of the problem with a bulging cast is also that many characters won't be able to feature in every episode if fans are to enjoy a deep set of storylines.

The Walking Dead's solution was to simply get rid of some big-hitters for long periods of time, but that creates an entirely new problem. Carol is arguably the best of the bunch yet she was sidelined for a long spell so we could enjoy minor characters follies.

Nobody wants to see that, it would be far more preferable to sever ties with five or six characters than drop Rick, Carol, Daryl, Glenn, Maggie for a couple of episodes in a row. This is Rick's story, everyone else is largely peripheral.
