The Walking Dead Season 8: 4 Ups And 3 Downs From 'The King, The Widow, And Rick'

2. Siddiq

After making his debut in the Season 8 opener, the mysterious presence of Siddiq hasn't been addressed - but he makes a great return here in a scene that fleshes out his character and, just as importantly, marks Carl out as more than just a mini-Rick.

Siddiq's something of a fan-favourite in the comics, even though he's not a major player, and there are clear signs of the TV version following that path in this episode. He's a guy with strong morals and beliefs, and while the more cynical survivors will view him as naive, it's refreshing to have someone who seems like a genuinely nice person thrust into this world. There's still a lot more to learn about Siddiq, and there are hints of a tragedy in his past, but based on what we see here that's going to be interesting to see unfold.

Carl, too, is interesting here. Sure, Chandler Riggs isn't the best performer on the show, but having to go through so many changes as the character grows up can't be easy, and this is an iteration of Carl that could get a good run on the series. He's mostly assured in what he has to do, but also has a stronger moral core than his father at present, and it's intriguing how much the show tries to create a big contrast between the two.
