The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Review - 4 Ups & 6 Downs From "The Last Time"

6. Down: Mute Performances From An Underused Supporting Cast

It gives me no pleasure to report that Terry O'Quinn has been severely underutilised by The Ones Who Live, and "The Last Time," where he's finally given some lengthy screentime, gives him little of substance to work with.

Now, he's not terrible. He captures the desperation of Beale's mission, as well as the fact he's convinced himself of his benevolence, with a decent amount of menace, but there's absolutely no character behind the speechifying and exposition. Consider his work on Lost, and you'll be heartbroken by the wasted opportunity here.

Elsewhere, Thorne actress Lesley-Ann Brandt, despite some compelling work early in the show alongside Andrew Lincoln, also spends the finale a generic, forgettable foil, there to fight Rick and Michonne and inevitably die without much of an impact. (It doesn't help that Michonne says the actual line "Love doesn't die" before killing her. Yikes.)

Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira continue to work wonders, but their co-stars are left stranded by thin characterisation and anticlimactic farewells. They deserved better.
