The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Review - 4 Ups & 6 Downs From "The Last Time"

5. Down: It's All So... Neat

The Ones Who Live
AMC

Ultimately, between the action, the uninteresting side characters and rushed pace, the biggest, most glaring flaw of The Ones Who Live's finale is how damn neat it all is, bringing years of story to an end with twists and deaths that are only deployed to tie everything together with a nice bow.

From the demise of Commander Beale to the final fight of Thorne, to the destruction of the CRM and its eventual reinvention by the mysterious Civil Republic Council (why not?) into something more peaceable, "The Last Time" twits and turns itself at every opportunity, trying to cover as much ground as possible before the credits roll.

The villains easily defeated, the heroes surviving odds immeasurable even by Rick and Michonne's usual standards, the finale is not without its many highs, especially for long-time fans, but they're hampered by an execution too by-the-numbers to leave a lasting mark.

That being said, it's not quite as neatly tied-up as the mainline show's finale; that one was a real low. Anyway, here's what "The Last Time" does oh-so right...
