The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Review - 6 Ups & 4 Downs From "Gone"
7. Down: It's Not As Good As the Premiere
"Gone," all told, is far from a failure, but its lows are numerous and glaring, and the lingering implications of its drama - Rick and Michonne's imprisonment, the deaths of so many promising, underserviced characters - doesn't promise much in the way of shocks down the road.
Like its predecessor, the episode plays fast and loose with time and tone in such a way that many of the show's largest threats are left jarringly underdeveloped. Even here, even now, it's difficult to understand the CRM, or how the show plans to explore the organisation and (inevitably) send Richonne back home.
The rushed plot points make for a very frustrating episode, starting where Michonne left off in The Walking Dead and ending several years later, with her trapped behind enemy lines to an uncertain future.
Already, it seems The Ones Who Live has run out of narrative steam - you can almost see where the next episodes are going to go, who'll clash with who and how the story will end - and for all this episode's magnificent, individual highs, that sure is disheartening.
