The Wire Cast: Where Are They Now?

5. John Doman

The Wire
Fox

As officious, ladder climbing career copper Bill Rawls, John Doman played one of the least likeable characters in The Wire. A man far more interested in aesthetically pleasing statistics than beneficial police work, Rawls flew in the face of everything the series stood for, and yet was played with such wolfish relish by Doman that he could never be purely loathsome.

Doman’s natural authority made him a great fit for the part, and he has made a career of playing similarly imposing characters of status, popping up in most of your favourite TV shows. He was a bishop on House Of Cards, a CIA man on Madam Secretary, mob boss Carmine Falcone on Gox's Gotham.

More recently he had a recurring role as Dr. Jonah Vogelbaum on Amazon’s pitch black superhero series The Boys, and a sizeable role as Attorney General John Mitchell in Aaron Sorkin’s well meaning if flawed The Trial of the Chicago 7.

Perhaps his most interesting post-Wire part was as John McCleary alongside Joaquin Phoenix in You Were Never Really Here. Doman plays the handler to Phoenix’s vigilante - it’s a small role, but one which the actor, as ever, mines for all it’s worth.
