Over 15 years after Jason’s death, rumours began to circulate, suggesting that the character would make a miraculous comeback as the mysterious new villain Hush. These rumours stemmed from the fact that some of Jim Lee’s artwork began making its way around the internet and it supposedly revealed Hush to be none other than Jason Todd.

While Jason did indeed appear in the Hush arc, it was merely a cruel mind game played by Clayface, who took on the former Robin’s appearance at the behest of Hush. In an interview with Newsarama, writer Jeph Loeb spoke about the character’s significance to the story.

“I always liked Jason, liked the idea that Batman had a Robin who died in the line of duty and how that would motivate anyone to continue their quest. It would also be the most recent, most painful thing he had to endure. That's why Hush played the card -- to get inside Batman's head.”

Thanks to Hush, there was a resurgence of interest in Jason Todd, and this eventually ended up paving the way for his eventual return as the mysterious Red Hood in 2005's Under The Hood arc.
