The arrival of Jason Todd brought with it some very painful memories for Dick and, as a result, we were introduced to a series of flashbacks to the days (and years) that followed his parents' deaths. These would go on to play a rather pivotal role in the character's journey, giving us a close-up look at the moment that he became the monster he is today.

The initial flashbacks saw the return of actor Tomaso Sanelli, who once again did a stellar job at portraying the young heartbroken Dick - who wanted to remain with his circus family instead of living with Bruce Wayne. These brief scenes allowed us to get somewhat acquainted with the circus family and it set the stage nicely for the present-day story, in which almost all of them were killed by Tony Zucco's son.

It was then revealed through another flashback that, upon discovering that Zucco's father would be moved into witness protection, Dick donned his Robin attire and assaulted the man who killed his parents. However, when some of the Maronis also targeted Zucco, Robin did nothing to save him and allowed him to be killed.

This didn't just feel like a well-written sequel to Dick Grayson's iconic origins, it's relation to the present-day storyline made him realize the gravity of what he had become and how it ultimately cost a lot of his friends their lives. Another great example of the development that Dick has been undergoing.
