True Detective Season 2: 10 Rumours You Need To Know

8. But This Time In California

Again, it sounds like the second season of True Detective will be taking the elements that made the first one so successfully, but trying to transplant them into different surroundings. Where the original story was very much rooted in the Deep South €“ with the environment, musical and literary traditions all playing into proceedings €“ the follow-up will apparently do the same, albeit in slightly sunnier surroundings. Rumour has it that True Detective season two will take place in California and, straight from Pizzolatto's mouth again, "Not Los Angeles but some of the much lesser-known venues of California, and we're going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place, much like we did in Season 1." We're not sure what a psychosphere is (and neither does our spellchecker), but we're assuming that's just fantasy talk for saying it's a nice location. There's a tradition for Californian crime dramas and noir of a similar tone to True Detective's first go around, so we've got pretty high hopes for the show's second season: Pizzolatto bringing some grim, gritty storytelling in the vein of LA Confidential and Chinatown, but with some supernatural bits and bobs thrown in, along with his singular writing style and some high production values? And none of the usual tinseltown distractions about faded stars and aspiring actors stabbing each other in the backs (both figuratively and literally)? Yeah, go on then.
